Bad Content Provider, Bad!

The resurrection of my Compaq Presario 700

Whoa. Finally my computer hath returned! I've been a bad, bad,
bad content provider the past couple weeks. However, as I've
learned at length in graduate school, when the shiznit starts to go
funky, blame someone else! In this case, the AC adapter on my
Compaq Presario 700 notebook, purchased (ahem) two years and
nine months ago. This computer has been dying a slow, slow
death since last spring, due, I would guess, in no small part to the
daily thumpings this poor little box has taken over the past couple
years. Lots of commuting miles + daily jostling on subway = internal
structural damage and regularly scheduled "Oh my God this thing is
finally dead" moments for its owner.

But for now, we live! And we soldier on!

La France -- where's Leroy?: took a wild trip across the ocean for
the weekend (don't snicker -- it's only an hour longer than flying to
the west coast from New York, though they don't have In-n-Out).
Quite an adventure. Even got to stay in a 17th century chateau.
Though I will begrudgingly (or at least I think begrudgingly) admit
that I spent far too much of my time thinking about the 3,000
pages of Neal Stephenson historical fiction I had just read. Mostly, I
wondered if this was the sort of place where the Countess de la
Zeur may have visited on her way to the Damplatz. Also, I am a
total freaking dork.

Omaha Beach: took a field trip to Omaha Beach whilst we were
there. Whoa. Very sobering. While noting that Saving Private Ryan
did an excellent job of making D-Day seem really really scary, the
thing that strikes you about Omaha Beach is just how HUGE it is. It
had to be a solid 300 meters from sea to vegetation. 300 meters
of lonely, exposed beach. Made me feel very lucky. And very
proud.

The Ghost of the Dangerously Committed: though #5 could
have been a bit sharper on a few throws Monday evening, it's very
tough to complain about 49-21. It's especially tough to complain
about #5 when he pulls a stunt like the 14.1-second video game
nonsense to Freddie Mitchell. The only thing that compares is the
96-yarder that Randall chucked against Buffalo in 1990.
Somewhere, Mr. Cunningham and Arkansas Fred are smiling.

Also, he was second in the AL MVP voting: quite a Tuesday for
Gary Sheffield! Congrats on finishing second to Vlad Guerrero in the
AL MVP vote! Quite an achievement! Oh, and did you hear that
your wife got double-teamed by R Kelly and some random dude?
With any luck the video will be online by the end of the week!
Attaguy Gary!

Lenny's has moved(!): Alert! Alert! The 74th Street Lenny's has
moved! Only across the street, mind you, but this is still
noteworthy for the Upper Left Side's sandwich afficionados. We'll
be sure to offer an update if the new location comes with another
menu update.

I feel much better now. Back in the game. Let us all cross our
fingers regarding the continued survival of my puter!
