Another tough win for the Birds Sunday. In general, the crowd
was pretty subdued; dare we suggest that the fans are actually
expecting this team to win these games and -- gasp! -- are taking
this team for granted? Probably not -- the crowd was standing in
the fourth quarter and the invectives tossed at the courageous
Ravens fans in attendance were pretty vulgar.
That's Just TO Being TO: TO looked pretty ordinary in the first half, as did McNabb. Dropped a couple balls and didn't really impact the game. But then he went and won the whole thing in the fourth quarter. Wow. He's earned it. Though I feel somewhat
cheated that I couldn't see him punk Ray Lewis with his TD
celebration -- too busy high-fiving and jumping about in the
200-level. Still, you gotta love TO taunting Ray Lewis. That's the
same Ray Lewis that was charged with murdering someone. With
a knife. I'm just sayin.
Third and Short: for the second week running, the Eagles were throwing on third and short instead of pounding the ball. I have no issue with throwing the ball on third and short sometimes, but I feel like the run is being completely ignored. What happened to the Birds' short-yardage game? I think this is particularly troubling as regards recent performances in the Red Zone.
Worst Possible Uniform Combination: the black jerseys aren't terrible per se, but when combined with the white pants, they're absolutely awful. When the Birds do black and white, they don't look like the Eagles. (Pssssssst. The Eagles traditionally wear "green.") If they're going to do the black shirts (which I understand -- but don't approve of -- from a marketing and
merchandising perspective), then please do them exclusively with
the green pants. This error in judgment was even more galling in
the context of the Ravens wearing white pants as well. Very JV.
Most Awful Chant: some yahoos in our section got a head of steam on a "You're a man!" chant directed towards a slightly less than attractive woman in Ravens gear one section away. Though
that wasn't the most awful chant. I think it's better if I don't
repeat the most awful chant(s). Mostly they used the word "pink"
as a noun. Take that as you will.
Best Costume: far fewer costumes in the stands than I would have expected. Though I imagine that many folks are simply so
fond of their football-stadium costumes (that is, their charming
collections of officially licensed adornments and apparel) that they
passed on ghouling it up for the occasion. Still, the guy on stilts
(see above) ahead of us in the security line was pure genius; the
security folks had NO idea what to do with the patdown process.
And then he made it up the steps at the West Entrance! Unreal.
