How To Make Friends In C@L (Vol. 1): Temple Of The Dog
Not that there's anything wrong with grunge
Maybe it's the crappy winter weather (which admittedly hasn't been that crappy of late/ this week), or maybe it's a general feeling that I'm sufficiently settled to have more complex opinions about the town, but lately I've felt empowered to (more publicly) have a sense of humor about my new home. This is all just a polite way of saying that I've probably been a little more obnoxious than usual about C@L of late.
In what might become a semi-regular feature here on ThatKid, I'm going to offer some charming ideas for making friends should you ever be in the greater C@L area. And away we go:
Imagine that you're in a bar and you spot someone sporting he sort of haircut that the good boys in Pearl Jam and Soundgarden might have sported circa 1991. While of course we respect what those folks did for pop culture and rock music (and we obvously own many of their albums), we might suggest that not everything grunge was actually so cool, especially through the cruel lens of hindsight. A lot of the music was great -- but not all of it. And though we dug on the whole dress-down/ casual fashion vibe that it peddled, perhaps said style isn't quite as appropriate today. There. That wasn't too impolite.
So, if you're looking to make friends in C@L in the presence of some grunge fashion or hair vibes, might I suggest growling the following in your throatiest Chris Cornell rumble:
I don't miiiiiiiiinnnd
Steealing breeeeeeeeaaaaaddddd,
From the mouth of
Decadeennnnnnnnnnnnnce.
But I groooow hhhhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuhhhnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngry.
(I GROOOWWWWW HONGRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!)
Repeat as necessary. Trust me -- the locals love it!
(For more information about Temple of the Dog, click here. Also, mad props to all those who helped me get the lyrics right! Here I was, trying to poke fun at C@L, and I didn't even know the proper words!)
(But I groooow hhhhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuhhhnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngry....)

Aren't those are Eddie Vedders lines.

I thought it was "I go hungry" too, but then I looked it up (for fear of getting it wrong), and the web sites told me "grow." Sigh. We might never know.
And, in all fairness, my Chris Cornell growl is eerily similar to my Eddie Vedder growl.
