Their Starters Must Be On A Bye Week
Eagles dredge the fantasy waiver wire for free agent pickups, and other sports-related quick hits on St. Patrick's Day
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
In lieu of a proper post in re: this glorious and important holiday, I'm going to go downmarket and indulge myself with some (mostly Philly-related) sports talk. In all fairness, it's been over a month since I talked about anything Eagles-related; I think that's extremely generous and restrained of me. Of course, I don't actually have a proper posting, just a bunch of quickies.
Onwards!
Like A Bad Week In Your Fantasy League: tough to get very excited about what the Birds accomplished in free agency this week. After getting pipped by the Browns on LeCharles Bentley, the Birds seemed to run out of ideas pretty quickly. We went from the best offensive lineman in free agency and a possible trade for Javon Walker (or at least that's what the rumor-mongers on WIP told me) to a bunch of touchdown-stealing discount dudes you'd barely want to pick up on a bye week in your fantasy league: Jabar Gaffney, Matt Schobel, and Jeff Garcia. Hmmm. I hate to focus too much on the wide receiver position, since I think they have real issues on the offensive line as well, but this is not the sort of off-season that gets me excited about the team improving next year. Maybe they've got some other tricks up their sleeve. That'd be nice.
Luke Ridnour, Olympian: Feel somewhat cheated/ bummed out that I didn't get to see AI play in the Sixers' one visit to C@L this year. Instead, I was treated to a pretty lame excuse for a "professional" basketball game. Maybe the most shocking part of the whole exercise was that the Sixers were actually up 15 points in the third quarter. I still have no idea how that happens. Also, the Sixers have no one that can really create their own shot without AI on the floor. And, it's worth noting that potential U.S. Olympian Luke Ridnour managed to spend most of the second half (including almost all of the important fourth-quarter minutes) on the bench. Again. I agree, Mr. Colangelo: Ridnour brings much more to the table than AI. Much more. And playing in the fourth quarter will just make him tired before the Olympics.
March Madnice: I'm rocking four brackets and the player pool this year. You would think with so many different scenarios in play that I would manage to succeed at one of them. Nope. Already looking shaky in most. Of course, once it's clear that I'm no longer in the running with my sundry brackets, there's always the ol' reliable. And by the ol' reliable I mean "individual recreational wagers on the electric Internets." For amusement only. Of course. In terms of my rooting interests, I'm trying to get behind the local squads. Go Dawgs. Not Gonzaga, though. I think that's a bit played.
The Inevitable: and of course T.O. is going to Dallas. Of course he is. Where else could he go? Looks like I'm going to have to go back to agreeing with Skip Bayless again.
Enjoy the Green Day.
