Buddy Ryan's Fantasy Team
I think I would pay subscription fees to read a Buddy Ryan NFL blog
Did the Philadelphia Daily News really just publish an interview with former Eagles coach Buddy Ryan in which Buddy discusses his freakin fantasy football team? Are you kidding me? This is phenomenal!
As loyal readers are well aware, I, along with most people of my Eagles-fan generation, harbor an unconditional fondess for James David "Buddy" Ryan. He was the mastermind behind -- though not the coach of -- the vaunted and outstandingly fantastic 1991 Philadelphia Eagles defense, which, as we all know, is probably the best defense of the modern NFL era. ( I just did a search for "Buddy Ryan" on ThatKid; only (AHEM) seven (7) entries, including one where I demanded he be allowed to guest coach the final game of the 2005 season.
Yikes. So I guess I'm a little obsessed with the Buddy Ryan thing.
So you can imagine how excited I was to discover that not only is Buddy willing to talk to the media about football, but he's also happy to discuss his fantasy football team -- a team he's managed for the past eight years! Buddy's been doing fantasy football longer than I have!
In case you were wondering, here's Buddy's team (currently atop his league at 7-2), courtesy of the Philadelphia Daily News:
Team Name: Buddy's 46ers.
Quarterback: *Donovan McNabb, Eagles; Steve McNair, Ravens.
Running backs: *Jamal Lewis, Ravens; Fred Taylor, Jaguars; *LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers; Michael Turner, Chargers.
Wide receiver: Michael Clayton, Buccaneers; *Derrick Mason, Ravens; *Randy Moss, Raiders; Marcus Robinson, Vikings.
Tight end: *Todd Heap, Ravens.
Kicker: "The Seattle guy" (Josh Brown)
Defense, special teams: *Baltimore; Oakland
* - Indicates usual starter.
The preponderance of Ravens is a clear sign that Buddy may not know art, but he knows what he likes (this = a bias for teams that like to play nasty defense and beat up on people). Also, I can't help but be excited to see he has McNabb. But the coup de grace is clearly the team name: the 46ers. Nice work with that, Buddy. Nice work.
