Sixers Season Preview (Which Is Actually About Football)

Yeah, I don't actually have too much to say here, other than I think the Eagles could use AI

The Sixers opened their 2006-2007 with a big win over the Atlanta Hawks (note: this was an excellent opponent with whom to begin the season) tonight. Good for the Sixers. I wish I could get a little bit more excited about this season's edition of the Sixers, but the team is kind of lacking for inspirational material right now. Essentially, the team that missed the playoffs last year is back and intact, save for the addition of Alan Henderson. Yup. Alan Henderson. That's all we got.

So they're going to be pretty mediocre. The young guys to whom they've handed big contracts are either lazy (Sam Dalembert) or undertalented (Kyle Korver). The veteran stars aren't getting any younger or better at running and/ or jumping. Still, the season isn't a complete loss. Mostly I'm psyched that AI didn't get traded. As noted in this space last spring, I'd rather watch the Sixers lose with AI than watch them lose without AI. (Not that I'll get to watch them very often; turns out I'll be out of town for the Sixers' sole visit to C@L this year. BOOOOOOOOO.) So they'll be middle-of-the-road, maybe make the playoffs, and bow out in the first round. And that's fine by me.

Speaking of AI, I found this gem on Youtube the other day in a fit of fantasy-basketball-draft-and-late-term-Eagles-remorse. This is the footage of Allen Iverson playing high school football that you've been longing to watch. For the record, I think AI could start for the Eagles tomorrow at cornerback and also return kicks. He could do this at least as well as Will Peterson/ James.

Check it out:

Let's go Sixers.
